Black History Month Employee Spotlight: Karriel Augustin

KARRIEL AUGUSTIN

February 10, 2021

Throughout February, we will introduce members of our team, sharing what Black History Month means to them as well as who inspires them. “The importance of Black History Month is to honor and celebrate the lives and achievements of African Americans who have made transformational impacts on American society in different arenas such as government, science, arts and literature, education, business, sports, entertainment and many more facets of the nation’s tapestry.” This is how Karriel Augustin, a Plant Manager for Valassis, a Vericast business, in Miami Lakes, Florida, describes the significance of Black History Month.

Karriel shared that a leader motivated him with this baseball pitcher’s quote: “Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you.” Ever since, Leroy Robert “Satchel” Paige became an inspiration to him. Karriel shares that “from his wisdom, I have learned to always look ahead. If I could describe spending the day with the athlete, it would be at a baseball park to learn what inspired this quote and many others.”
